THE DECISION

The referee awards an indirect free kick to the defending team where the offside offence occurred. Law 11 states that a player in an offside position is penalised for interfering with play by playing/touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate (it is not required that the ball is received from a team-mate who deliberately passed the ball).
