The ball touches a match official (outside the penalty area), remains on the field of play and the team in possession of the ball changes. What is the referee’s decision?

THE DECISION

The referee stops play and drops the ball for the team that would have retained or gained possession if the ball had not touched the match official. If the referee cannot determine this, the ball is dropped for one player of the team that last touched the ball. Play is restarted at the position where the ball made contact with the match official.
